What is Dermapen Microneedling?

Smoother, clearer, and more radiant skin

Dermapen Microneedling is a clinically proven treatment that helps your skin repair and renew itself from within. Using a precision device with fine, sterile needles, it creates tiny micro-channels on the surface of the skin. This controlled process stimulates your body’s natural healing response, boosting the production of collagen and elastin, the two key proteins responsible for firmness, elasticity, and smooth texture.

How our Microneedling Treatment works

The Science Behind Our Microneedling Treatment

As we age, the natural production of collagen and elastin gradually slows down, leading to fine lines, uneven texture, and loss of firmness. Microneedling helps to reverse this process by stimulating your skin’s natural repair mechanism.

Using ultra-fine, precisely controlled needles, the device creates microscopic punctures on the surface of the skin. These tiny micro-injuries trigger your body’s healing response, encouraging new collagen and elastin to form.

As fresh collagen develops, the skin becomes brighter, firmer, and more even in tone, with visible improvement in fine lines, pores, scars, and overall texture. The treatment is comfortable, minimally invasive, and requires little to no downtime — making it a popular choice for those seeking smoother, more youthful-looking skin without surgery.

What is Dermapen?

Dermapen is an advanced, medical-grade microneedling device designed to rejuvenate and strengthen the skin from within. It works by creating thousands of tiny, precisely controlled micro-channels across the skin’s surface. These micro-channels trigger your body’s natural healing response, stimulating the release of growth factors that encourage the production of new collagen and elastin.

As your skin begins to repair itself, circulation increases and new cells are formed, gradually improving tone, texture, and firmness. Over the following weeks, this natural process helps to remodel the deeper layers of the skin, reducing visible signs of ageing and enhancing overall radiance.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Microneedling helps to rejuvenate the skin from within by encouraging collagen and elastin production. Over time, this process gradually remodels the deeper layers of the skin, helping to:

  • Soften fine lines and wrinkles

  • Refine enlarged pores and smooth uneven texture

  • Diminish acne scarring and other superficial scars

  • Reduce the appearance of stretch marks

  • Create a more even tone for skin affected by sun damage or mild pigmentation

The result is skin that looks smoother, firmer, and more radiant with each session.

Microneedling works by triggering your body’s natural healing response. The needles we use as part of this procedure safely and precisely puncture the skin and, by doing so, instruct your body to produce collagen and elastin so it can heal properly. This is all to your benefit because the collagen and elastin strengthen, support, and improve the texture and overall health of your skin.

Yes, microneedling is a safe and well-established treatment when performed by a qualified professional using sterile, medical-grade equipment. The procedure works with your body’s natural healing process and involves minimal risk when carried out correctly.

Absolutely! Microneedling is an effective treatment for all skin types.

For most clients, the side effects of microneedling are mild and only temporary. Your side effects should begin to disappear within a week. The most common side effects are redness, bruising, and swelling. Your skin may also peel slightly. It might also feel sore and tender. Most patients can begin wearing makeup again within one day of receiving treatment.

On average, your microneedling results can last for several months up to a year depending on how many treatment sessions you undergo. Individual results also vary based on sun exposure, lifestyle habits (smoking, for instance), and genetics.

Upon evaluating your skin, our team can recommend the number of microneedling treatments you’ll most likely need to achieve your desired results. For fine lines, wrinkles, or mild sun damage, a series of 3-4 treatments is typically recommended. If you are addressing concerns such as stretch marks or acne scars, 5-6 treatments may be ideal, while deep wrinkles and severe scarring may require 8-12 treatments.

Microneedling treatments are typically spaced between 4-6 weeks apart to give your skin time to fully heal between sessions.

You may receive touch-up treatment sessions every 6-12 months. We encourage you to talk to our team about your goals and desired results so they can customise your treatment plan accordingly.

Yes, microneedling can be combined with other treatments to enhance your results. For some clients, for example, we recommend microneedling with a chemical peel. We can discuss your options during your consultation.

If you have active acne, you might not be an ideal candidate for microneedling at this time. At The Axis Clinic, our approach is to first control your acne with prescription skincare, such as tretinoin, benzoyl peroxide, and salicylic acid. This step is crucial because microneedling on active acne can potentially spread bacteria and exacerbate the condition.

We may also recommend additional treatments such as chemical peels or intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy. These treatments help further clear the skin and prepare it for microneedling.

After the microneedling procedure, we use blue light therapy to reduce any post-treatment inflammation and to kill any residual acne-causing bacteria, promoting faster and healthier healing.
