Botox is a prescription-only injectable administered directly to areas where you want to stop the muscles from contracting. It works on the neuromuscular junction, which causes the relaxation of muscles and skin tissue, leading to facial lines and wrinkles.

The botulinum toxin in the Botox injection creates a temporary block within that junction. This paralyses or relaxes the muscle so it cannot contract and form wrinkles. Once placed, Botox remains active for a period of time, limiting the movement of muscles.

Botox is a safe treatment for those approved for it. As long as you are working with a licensed and skilled health practitioner, like our team at Axis Clinic, you will be supervised throughout the process. It is critical that Botox treatments occur in a clinic managed and led by licensed medical professionals to protect your overall health and well-being.

Some people may experience side effects from the use of Botox. To help minimise this risk, our team will conduct a full medical history and discuss the potential risks. Typically, people may feel some mild discomfort, swelling, or bruising at the site of the injection. Though highly effective for most people, some people may have an adverse reaction to the use of Botox. You can minimise this risk by using a trusted medical provider for your care.

Botox is a powerful neuromodulator in the way it works. However, it does not last forever. The length of effectiveness is dependent on numerous factors, including your -lifestyleand the the treatment area. Most people can expect to see results from Botox for 3 to 4 months. Some may also see them last much longer than this.

Avoiding the “fake” look with Botox largely depends on the skill and precision of the person administering the treatment, as well as finding a clinician that understands moderation. When applied by a skillful, trained doctor, injectables can look perfectly natural and go unnoticed by friends and family. At the Axis Clinic, our team is doctor-led and highly trained in administering Botox treatment to give you a subtle, natural boost to your appearance. We’d be happy to do a consultation if you have concerns about looking “frozen” or unnatural so that we can discuss a personalised treatment plan.

There are a few things to avoid pre and post-Botox treatment to achieve the safest and most effective results.

Things to avoid before Botox:

  • Avoid drinking alcohol at least 24 hours before treatment to avoid an increased risk of bruising.
  • Reschedule your appointment if you notice any rashes, sores, or blemishes on or near the treatment area.
  • Avoid blood thinners if at all possible, as frequent use of NSAID and other blood thinners can increase your risk of bruising.

Things to avoid after Botox:

  • For optimal results, avoid strenuous exercise or activity for at approximately 24 hours after your treatment to prevent the Botox from migrating to another area.
  • Avoid rubbing or massaging the treated area to prevent the Botox from migrating to another area.
  • Avoid applying makeup and similar products until any swelling or irritation has gone away.
  • Avoid alcohol for 24 hours post treatment

The Axis Clinic does not recommend Botox treatments for pregnant or breastfeeding women. There is not significant evidence to suggest that these treatments are harmful, but we choose to err on the side of caution with our patients to ensure their well-being and the safety of their children. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding and have questions about our services, we recommend calling us so that we can answer your questions and recommend the best treatment plan for you.

Baby Botox is a cosmetic treatment that involves injecting smaller doses of Botox (botulinum toxin) into the facial muscles. The aim is to achieve a more natural and subtle look compared to traditional Botox treatments, which often use higher doses.

With a maximum of 30 units of Botox carefully administered, this treatment is designed to subtly smooth out fine lines and wrinkles without compromising your natural expressions. Unlike our traditional anti-wrinkle treatments, there is no follow up top-up session.

Yes, Botox can be used to treat teeth grinding (bruxism) and for facial slimming too. This is a specialist treatment and you should have an assessment with a healthcare provider like a doctor or dentist.

Yes, Botox can be used to treat excessive sweating, a condition known as hyperhidrosis. Botox works by blocking the nerves responsible for activating sweat glands, thereby reducing the amount of sweat produced in the treated areas.

Typical treatment areas include:

  • Underarms: One of the most common areas treated, Botox can significantly reduce sweating in the underarm region.
  • Palms of the Hands : Botox can help those who experience excessive sweating in their hands, which can be particularly bothersome for daily activities and social interactions.
  • Soles of the Feet : Treating the feet with Botox can alleviate discomfort and improve the quality of life for those with excessive foot sweating.
  • Face: Botox can be used to reduce sweating on the face, particularly around the forehead and scalp.
  • Other Areas: In some cases, Botox can be used for excessive sweating in other localised areas such as the chest, back, and groin.

Yes, Botox can be used to treat migraines. Botox (botulinum toxin) is an FDA-approved treatment for chronic migraines, which are defined as headaches occurring on 15 or more days per month, with each headache lasting four hours or more.

Botox for migraines is a specialised treatment and should be administered by a healthcare professional experienced in treating chronic migraines. If you’re considering Botox for migraines, consult a  specialist doctor to determine if it’s the right option for you.

Botox is a versatile treatment that can be effectively combined with various other aesthetic procedures to enhance results and address multiple skin concerns.  Combining Botox with other treatments can provide a synergistic effect, enhancing overall skin health and appearance. Whether you’re looking to reduce wrinkles, improve skin texture, add volume, or boost collagen production, a tailored approach can help you achieve the best possible outcomes. Here are some treatments that can be paired with Botox:

Injectables

  • Profhilo & Other Skin Boosters: An injectable hyaluronic acid treatment that hydrates and improves skin quality, working synergistically with Botox to smooth fine lines and enhance overall skin texture.
  • Polynucleotides: These injectable treatments help repair and regenerate skin at a cellular level, providing added rejuvenation alongside the wrinkle-smoothing effects of Botox.
  • PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma): Using your own blood, PRP injections stimulate collagen production and enhance skin healing, complementing Botox by improving skin tone and texture.
  • Dermal Fillers: Injectable fillers add volume and contour to the face, complementing Botox by filling deeper lines and restoring youthful fullness.
  • Collagen Stimulators: Treatments like Sculptra, Lanluma, Radiesse and Ellanse, stimulate collagen production, providing long-term skin firmness and volume restoration in conjunction with the immediate effects of Botox.

Skin Treatments:

  • Microneedling: This procedure creates micro-injuries in the skin to stimulate collagen production. When combined with Botox, it can improve skin texture and reduce the appearance of fine lines.
  • Intense Pulsed Light (IPL): IPL treatments target pigmentation, redness, and sun damage. Pairing IPL with Botox can provide a comprehensive approach to skin rejuvenation, addressing both dynamic wrinkles and pigmentation issues.
  • Morpheus8: A fractional microneedling RF treatment that tightens and remodels the skin. Combining Morpheus8 with Botox can enhance overall skin firmness, reduce wrinkles and tighten skin
  • Chemical Peels: These treatments exfoliate the skin to improve texture, tone, and clarity. Combining chemical peels with Botox can enhance the overall rejuvenation effect, providing smoother, more radiant skin.
At The Axis Clinic, our doctors will devise a personalised treatment plan tailored to your specific needs and goals. By combining Botox with these complementary treatments, you can achieve a more comprehensive and natural-looking rejuvenation.

Yes, men can have Botox treatments. At The Axis Clinic, we have many male patients who choose Botox to soften frown lines, prevent lines and wrinkles, and address issues like teeth grinding and excessive sweating. Most common areas men have treated include:

  • Forehead: To reduce horizontal lines.
  • Glabella (Frown Lines): To soften vertical lines between the eyebrows.
  • Crow’s Feet: To minimize fine lines around the eyes.
  • Jaw: For teeth grinding (bruxism).
  • Underarms: For excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis).
