FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

At The Axis Clinic, we love how versatile microneedling treatment is, as it can be used to address fine lines (such as crow’s feet and forehead creases), acne scars, burn scars, enlarged pores, stretch marks, hyperpigmentation, and rosacea.

Microneedling works by triggering your body’s natural healing response. The needles we use as part of this procedure safely and precisely puncture the skin and, by doing so, instruct your body to produce collagen and elastin so it can heal properly. This is all to your benefit because the collagen and elastin strengthen, support, and improve the texture and overall health of your skin.

Licensed and skilled health practitioners—like ours at The Axis Clinic—always prioritise your safety. Microneedling is safe when administered by those who have been trained and who have experience in this minimally invasive procedure. We encourage you to learn more about our team and their impressive qualifications by clicking here.

Absolutely! Microneedling is an effective treatment for all skin types.

For most clients, the side effects of microneedling are mild and only temporary. Your side effects should begin to disappear within a week. The most common side effects are redness, bruising, and swelling. Your skin may also peel slightly. It might also feel sore and tender. Most patients can begin wearing makeup again within one day of receiving treatment.

On average, your microneedling results can last for several months up to a year depending on how many treatment sessions you undergo. Individual results also vary based on sun exposure, lifestyle habits (smoking, for instance), and genetics.

Upon evaluating your skin, our team can recommend the number of microneedling treatments you’ll most likely need to achieve your desired results. For fine lines, wrinkles, or mild sun damage, a series of 3-4 treatments is typically recommended. If you are addressing concerns such as stretch marks or acne scars, 5-6 treatments may be ideal, while deep wrinkles and severe scarring may require 8-12 treatments.

Microneedling treatments are typically spaced between 4-6 weeks apart to give your skin time to fully heal between sessions.

You may receive touch-up treatment sessions every 6-12 months. We encourage you to talk to our team about your goals and desired results so they can customise your treatment plan accordingly.

Yes, microneedling can be combined with other treatments to enhance your results. Some clients, for example, elect to combine microneedling with a chemical peel. We can discuss your options during your consultation, which we encourage you to book at the soonest opportunity!

If you have active acne, you might not be an ideal candidate for microneedling at this time. At The Axis Clinic, our approach is to first control your acne with prescription skincare, such as tretinoin, benzoyl peroxide, and salicylic acid. This step is crucial because microneedling on active acne can potentially spread bacteria and exacerbate the condition. We may also recommend additional treatments such as chemical peels or intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy. These treatments help further clear the skin and prepare it for microneedling. After the microneedling procedure, we use blue light therapy to reduce any post-treatment inflammation and to kill any residual acne-causing bacteria, promoting faster and healthier healing.

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure that stimulates the production of collagen and elastin. Collagen and elastin are naturally occurring proteins in your body; collagen gives your skin structure and support, while elastin helps your skin maintain its elasticity. Together, these proteins help make your skin look youthful and smooth.

As you age, collagen and elastin production declines. This is where microneedling comes in. By creating precise, tiny holes in the top layer of your skin, microneedling stimulates your body’s natural healing response. Fine lines, wrinkles, and scars will appear less noticeable as your body produces collagen and elastin as part of the healing process.

In addition to its effectiveness, microneedling is a non-painful treatment with short recovery time and minimal side effects, making it a popular choice among our patients.

THE
MICRONEEDLING
PROCEDURE

Consultation

During your consultation, you will receive a thorough evaluation conducted by our team. In addition to gathering information about your medical history, and learning about the skin care concerns you’d like our team to address, we’ll suggest the treatment methods that would be most suitable for your goals.

If we determine that microneedling will work well for you, we can schedule your treatment session at a day and time that works best.

Treatment Process

We want to ensure your comfort throughout the duration of your treatment session. Upon your arrival at our clinic on the day of your microneedling treatment, we’ll apply a topical anaesthetic cream that will numb the entire treatment area. From there, our team will use the Dermapen to create tiny holes in your skin that will elicit skin cell regeneration. You may feel warmth, a scratching sensation, and mild discomfort around your cheekbones once the needles penetrate your skin.

The length of your treatment session will depend on the areas being treated. On average, treatment sessions last anywhere between 30 minutes to 90 minutes.

Since microneedling is an outpatient procedure, you can expect to leave our medical aesthetics clinic once your session has concluded.

Post-Treatment Care

To ensure the best results, our team will give you all the post-treatment care information you need to understand common symptoms and what you can do to optimise your results.

Microneedling in North London at The Axis Clinic is meant to give you stronger, rejuvenated, and smoother-looking skin with minimal downtime. We kindly ask that you be patient with your skin as it heals. Your skin might be red and swollen for up to a week post-treatment. An ice pack can help reduce irritation and discomfort. We strongly advise against spending time in the sun during the healing process.

You’ll see visible results within approximately 3 days, but the most dramatic results typically take 4 to 6 weeks to appear. For deeper concerns like scars or severe wrinkles, you might need multiple microneedling sessions spaced several weeks apart before you begin to see the results you’re anticipating.
